2010 AUG 25 – (VerticalNews.com) — “The molecule of the title compound, C3H2ClN3O2, is almost planar; the dihedral angle between the imidazole ring and the nitro group is 1.7 (2)degrees,” investigators in Malaysia report.
“In the crystal structure, pairs of intermolecular C-H Elsa Peretti® Open Heart key ring dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds link inversion-related molecules into dimers, generating R-2(2)(10) ring motifs. The dimers are interconnected into two-dimensional networks parallel to (102) via intermolecular N-H center dot center dot center dot N hydrogen bonds,” wrote H.K. Fun and colleagues.
The researchers concluded: “Further stabilization is provided by short intermolecular Cl center dot center dot center dot O interactions [3.142 (2) and 3.1475 (19) angstrom].”
Fun and colleagues published their study in Acta Crystallographica Section E – Structure Reports Online (2-Chloro-4-nitro-1H-imidazole. Acta Crystallographica Section E – Structure Reports Online, 2010;66(Part 7):O1828-U807).

2010 AUG 25 – (VerticalNews.com) — According to recent research from Ankara, Turkey, “In the title compound, C13H11N3O4, the dioxane ring adopts an envelope conformation with the C atom bonded to the dimethyl group in the flap position [deviation = 0.613 (1) angstrom]. The nitrile group and the attached benzene ring are roughly coplanar [maximum deviation = 0.087 (1) angstrom].”
“An intramolecular N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bond involving the hydrazinyl group generates an S(6) ring. The N-N and C-N bond lengths indicate that the compound may be a mixture of the azo and hydrazone tautomeric forms but the presence of the N-bound H atom Elsa Peretti® Open Heart ring the hydrazone form,” wrote N. Colak and colleagues, Hacettepe University.
The researchers concluded: “Elsa Peretti® Open Heart ring crystal structure is stabilized by weak intermolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot O, C-H center dot center dot center dot N and C-H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions.”
